Targeted Member Searching in CUNA Councils Connect

With the recent launch of the new free member benefit, CUNA Councils Connect, members have already begun to network and find advice and solutions with other members across the country (and all councils). With the new ability to do a targeted search - by geography, credit union data, expanded areas of expertise, vendors, and more - answers are now only a click away, making your professional life a little easier.

There are two main ways to find other members in CUNA Councils Connect, which you will find in the left hand navigation bar - Search Members "By Attribute" or "People Map."

The “People Map” is a visual representation of the Councils community. Here you are represented by the grey icon in the center of the "People Map" with your closest matches appearing as the icons nearest to you. It is an automatic, customized search - in the "People Map," matching is two-way, taking into account mutual interests with other members and common profile attributes. Use the check-box filters at the right of the "People Map" to further define the types of members you are looking to find.

When you start in the "People Map," all the profile attribute boxes are checked - uncheck and check boxes to target your search (as you do, you will see members appear and disappear appropriately). Click the red arrows above each question to collapse for easy viewing. Then, hover over the "people" on the map to get a thumbnail of their profile with your mouse - click "View Profile" to see more about that member. From there, you can send the member a message or "add them as a contact" to save to your own "my contacts" for future reference. Your list of contacts can be viewed at any time by clicking "My Contacts" from the left-hand navigation bar.

To find a generic list of members by specific profile questions only - such as a list of members who are using a particular vendor, use the search members "By Attribute" function. Similar to the old Council membership directory, this gives you the option of checking the profile attributes of council members to search, and generating a list. From there, you can also view each member's profile and send a message and/or add as a contact.

Why would you use one over the other? You can use the "People Map" to find people that you have similar things in common (based on mutual profile attributes and interests) and the Search "By Attribute" to search the entire community for specific attributes that you are looking for and generate a regular list

You can also find members through the search box at the top left of CUNA Councils Connect - it searches the entire community (profiles, files, discussions, etc) - or by clicking "Search" and clicking the "members" box.. Through this common search, members may find all of the following— relevant people, groups, forum posts, documents, media files, and blogs.
